Upward Leadership and Effective Followership (and how this affects culture in your agency)

Description:  This class will teach students about capitalizing on upward leadership opportunities.  Discussion will include how to identify these opportunities and how to take advantage of them when they present themselves.  Students will also learn about effective followership.  Discussion will include learning about the different followership styles and how to help yourself and others become a better follower. 

Captain Trisena Sharff

Trisena Sharff is a 23 year veteran of the Washington State Patrol who currently holds the rank of Captain. She is proud to have served in several divisions in her agency at various ranks including: Field Operations, Criminal Investigations, Special Operations, Internal Affairs, Human Resources, and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement. Trisena is the first person in Washington State Patrol history to hold the ranks of Detective, Detective Sergeant, Detective Lieutenant and now Detective Captain. She is the first woman in Washington State Patrol history to be in charge of a detective division.

 Trisena has two Bachelor’s Degrees from Central Washington University in Psychology and Law and Justice. She has an Executive Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Washington. Trisena attended Northwestern University, Center for Public Safety – School of Police Staff and Command.

Trisena has had the privilege of teaching leadership courses, for over a decade, to a variety of different audiences. She is a certified Leadership in Police Organizations instructor for the International Association of Chief’s of Police.
